Here at Silver Screen Guide we like to give you a guide to the cinemas. We review films, musical compositions, television shows, provide news and even review video games or write an opinion piece once in a while. I feel it is our obligation–if we truly are to be your guide to the cinema–to warn you and speak against movies that are harmful to society.
Once such film debuts February 10th; that film being Fifty Shades Darker the sequel to 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey. Valentines Day has been hijacked and held up at gunpoint–literally last year with Deadpool which we also decry–for the second year in a row with the release of this movie. This movie is trying to degrade the holiday into something it never has been nor should be…a holiday void of love (more on this later). I will update this article with the best movies to watch for Valentines Day.
Silver Screen Guide did not exist when the film installment of the “Grey” series was released but if our site had existed then we would have vehemently disparaged the film and strongly recommended you boycott it. Fifty Shades of Grey is under our ‘Films to Avoid‘ page and so will the sequel and the capstone (please let it be the end) to the trilogy when it comes out (let’s pray it actually doesn’t).
When the movie Me Before You came out the middle of last year we wrote a PSA over why the movie should be boycotted. Me Before You promoted, moreso glorified, assisted suicide which is a disgusting practice. The movie and liberal Hollywood was attempting to normalize the practice to promote the liberal agenda that has already become law and “normal” in a number of states. Helping someone kill themselves in not normal…it is evil and the normalization of such a practice leads to the degradation of society.
Fifty Shades Darker is striving for the same goal, albeit through a different subject matter. In a nutshell Fifty Shades Darker seeks to promote unhealthy relationships that disregard the sanctity of marriage by glorifying fornication of the filthiest kind that being sado-masichism. Do I need to go any further?
As I previously mentioned, Valentines Day is about love. What is love? Silly question to ask right? Well in today’s screwed up world where everything is dependent upon the individual’s own definition of truth, these basic concepts such as love must be defined as what they truly are so that progressives can’t have their way and change the true meaning.
“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” That is the greatest definition of love which is taken from John 15:13. Love is selfless not selfish. I don’t hide the fact that I’m a Christian and I believe these fundamental Christian values which our country has stood on for 240 years should not be expunged from society, yet this is what the dark series by E.L James wishes to accomplish.
This series of books and now movies glorifies the selfish pursuit of an individual to gratify debase sexual desires, therefore being no better than an animal. Is this really what we should be promoting in our society? If you give your hard earned dollars, time, and presence to this film then you are whole-heartedly embracing and promoting what is depicted on screen.
I encourage you to read 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 in which Paul speaks against sexual immorality. A powerful excerpt: “Every sin that a person can do is committed outside the body, except those who engage in sexual immorality commit sin against their own bodies. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you…and you don’t belong to yourselves? You have been bought and paid for, so honor God with your body.”
I also encourage you to read the beginning of 1 Corinthians 7 right after you read chapter 6. Paul reminds his readers man and woman should be married due to the potential for sexual immorality and that the marital relationship is selfless, not selfish, each spouse should put the other spouse’s needs before their own: “Likewise, the husband doesn’t have authority over his own body, but the wife does” (1 Cor. 7:4).
These two chapters will equip you with perfect understanding of a healthy, loving marital relationship and the dire consequences of the opposite and the opposite is glorified in the Fifty Shades films, but those of us who know the truth know better. And that is why I write this post in the hopes you will be enlightened and enlighten others. Boycott Fifty Shades Darker. Let’s ensure this movie bombs at the box office so they won’t make the third film!
Never stop improving the present moment!
The Sydney Morning Herald has a good article explaining how this movie promotes female abuse and should be boycotted.
